Whenever something happens that takes me off guard, or actually makes me upset I always have these Eminem lyrics run through my mind..."Snap, back to reality, oh! there goes gravity..." Just that one little sentence out of the entire song. I think it is my way of reminding myself that yet again I have been fooled, been foolish, or been made a fool.
Snap! What a great way to describe that instant feeling you get when something hurts you. It is a power / action word. A word you would see in some comic strip when referring to the hit or miss of our favorite super hero toward the favorite super villain. It describes insurmountable options to the person who may here it.
Back to reality...yep. Just like that - you have this incredible action word of Snap that wakes you up. Then you have the 3 little words that put you in your place - back to reality. As if you are being forced from the best dream you have had. It is that slap in the face that is the difference between thinking things may go your way, to realizing they clearly will NOT go your way. This is the feeling when you realize a promise has been broken again. This is the feeling you have after coming to the realization that while he said he may call, he has no intention of dialing your number. This is the feeling of realizing you are not as perfect as he told you, or even within his universe. "He" being any person that has let you down, or situation that has failed you.
Oh! Yes - similar to our action word of "snap", this too is an action word, but of a different meaning. This is more of a follow up to what you feel after being hurt, being in a car accident, having your heart broken. Oh. There is nothing else to say when you use this word after Snap back to reality. If "back to reality" is the slap in your face statement, "oh" is the burning sensation you have after the slap. This is that ah-ha epiphany that after being slapped, and while the burning begins and continues, you are now just a crumb upon the great floor of life, waiting to be swept up and thrown away.
There goes gravity...and what comes after that stinging sensation of "oh"? Yes, you guessed it. The sensation of falling. Not the good falling - not the falling in like, falling in love, falling for a good joke, etc. No, this is their evil cousin. This is the favorite super villain that our super hero may be fighting...only the super villain is victorious and the super hero is not so super any longer. Powers are lost, the fight is done, and nothing remains expect a delusional person in a leotard who thought they could change the world. You sit, after the fall, and try to remember every single minute detail of where things went wrong up until you thought "Snap, back to reality. Oh! here goes gravity."
